THE HISTORY OF EARL

THE HISTORY
OF EARL

In 1910, Earl Arnold Sr., leader of a popular Cincinnati dance band “The Troubadours”, packed away his trumpet, purchased the company’s first hand-fed letterpress and founded The Earl D. Arnold Printing Company in the basement of a church. Earl Sr. was the original embodiment of our current creative and technical offering. His focus on quality and craftsmanship set the fledgling company on a path to success. By 1923, with his persistence and hard work paying off, the business moved into larger quarters downtown at 3rd & Main. Earl Sr.’s legacy was starting to groove.

In 1946, his son Earl “Dee” Arnold Jr. joined the company after serving in the Navy during WWII. Shortly thereafter Dee’s brother Edward, also a WWII vet, came aboard. Company growth and expanded services continued throughout the following decades. In that time Arnold Printing was incorporated and by 1966, with the company firmly established, the Arnold brothers purchased their first headquarters at 222 W. McMicken Ave.

In 1978, Dee’s son, Earl “Duff” Arnold III, joined the family business. And like the preceding generation, Duff’s brother Tim joined the company shortly thereafter. Together, the 3rd generation Arnold brothers, led the company to greater heights including the ‘94 construction of our present headquarters at 630 Lunken Park Drive. Their client-focused business moves and early investment in digital print technology made Arnold Printing a go-to resource for clients seeking quality printing with faster turns, variable choices and affordability.

Duff and Tim’s vision still lead us today. In 2018, Arnold added an award-winning brand design team to provide an integrated brand design and print technology capability. The 2020 rebrand saw Arnold Printing’s name changed to Arnold, signaling a broader service offering and their commitment to partnering with clients to develop and activate brand touchpoints and programs.

Arnold’s humble beginnings in a church basement have come far. The next century and the up and coming 4th generation of Arnold leadership are poised for even greater success. Earl Sr., our trumpet playing founder, would be jazzed about that!
